Anagni, the former Capital Town of the Ernici People (VI Century B.C.),
still keeps the - mostly mediaeval - buildings and monuments of its past.

Known as the “Town of the Popes” – four Popes were born here: Innocenzo III, Gregorio IX, Alessandro IV and Bonifacio VIII – Anagni has an extremely well-preserved mediaeval centre.

The Romanic Cathedral dates back to the XII Century and has a beautifully tessellated pavement. Under the Cathedral there is a Crypt which is known
as the Sistine Chapel of the Middle Ages with vivid frescoes of the XI Century.

Other sights that must be seen are the Bonifacio VIII Palace, where he called the
First Jubilee of the Roman Catholic Church in 1300, the Town Hall
of the XII Century and the remains of the Roman walls
dating back to the II Century B.C.

More information, photos and places to visit are printed in the brochure
published by the Anagni Municipality and Pro Loco (Tourist Board)
and on the websites which can be found in the "links" section.
